Over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten to spend a lot more time with my kids. If I’m lucky, they will emerge from their rooms to get something to eat or ask me a math question I can’t answer. These moments, have sometimes turned into opportunities for us to have real conversations. Just this morning, Thomas, was expressing his frustration about not being able to see his friends. He’s in 8th grade and misses his social life. All his friends head off to different high schools in the fall and he’s worried that they’ll not have much time to hang out before then. Before I could agree and engage in a meaningful conversation about how he felt about the school year ending (sigh, that doesn't really happen with teenage boys, does it?) he’s already on his way out of the kitchen. He does pause a moment to say to me, “You know, I’m actually really excited about high school. I’m ready to go.” Welp, there it is. He’s ready to fly.
So here’s to you, Thomas Hargan. Spread your wings next fall and do great things at St. Anselm’s Abbey School. I am so darn proud of you. #uncovergoodnews
